Preparing for Advent

Can you believe this year is almost over?  As we come closer to the holidays, we begin to see more and more commercials on TV regarding the big Christmas sales and what the hottest item is going to be this year.  If anyone still enjoys watching the news, then you will also know that the economy is the top story.  Many of these stories have already shown that the retail sector is going to suffer this year (I actually think I have heard that for the past several years).

I know that most people will still be spending on Christmas gifts, but as we do, keep in mind what Christmas is all about.  Foremost, it is about Christ.  Below is a video I found that puts our spending in perspective.

This advent season, I hope we can all focus on worshiping fully, spending less, giving more, and loving all.

Canyonlands outing

We had a great time this past weekend in Canyonlands. We hiked, biked, 4X4'd, rock climbed, and chased lizards. Some how with everything we did, we were able to get some good rest as well.

I am amazed at God's creation. This place was beautiful and the weather was perfect (after the first night). Here's a short video showing some of the trip.

I wish everyone else could have made it, but we will plan some shorter, closer trips soon that we can all get out and enjoy together.

Sunday School for March 16th

Looking forward to Sunday School this upcoming Sunday. Our assignments are two-fold. First, please take the time to memorize one new verse. Whatever God is shown you, choose that area, or, continue on if you're already memorizing a passage :) I'd love for a few people to be able to share what God is teaching them or recite the verse they're working on :)

Secondly, we're going to be looking at the 1000 year reign of Christ referred to in Revelations 20:1-6. Take a look at these passages and also related passage. Literal or figurative? What are the consequences?

Week of February 24th - Assignments/Objectives

Hey everyone,

We had a great time together this morning in Sunday School! I'm very encouraged from all the sharing and talk that we do. Amanda raised a question that really challenged us all, thank you Amanda! (Ask someone who was there if you're curious what we talked about :) )

For this week we decided to focus on two goals. The first is to pray for an extra 5 minutes every day this week for the opportunity to pray with someone. This would be someone you wouldn't ordinarily pray with, outside your immediate family, for example. Secondly, please work to memorize one new memory verse this week. When the devil came at Jesus with Scripture, Jesus responded... With scripture! Let's arm ourselves.

Jesse's up next Sunday. Please make it a priority to show up and support Jesse as he teaches our Sunday School for the first time.

Memorial Day Trip

Hey everyone,

Here are some shots of the area we're thinking of for Memorial Day. It around Escalante, Utah, about 310 miles from Ogden. This would be some of the hiking, I'd like to camp up in the pines...

It's an amazing area with plenty to do. I'd like to find a spot where we can all get away to relax, camp, hike, bike, 4-wheel and fellowship together. Let me know what you think, what you want to do! :)

This is a blog for the '20/30 Something' Sunday School Class at Canyon Road Assymbly of God in Ogden, UT. Our class is focused on discipleship and having a balanced spiritual life. We are also involved in many group activities and we are continually planning those activities and hopfully this blog can be used as a tool to help everyone in the group keep up with those activities.

You can look at upcoming activities on the calendar at the bottom of the page, or by clicking on the GoggleCalendar botton to the right. Let me know what you would like added, or you can add items yourself if you have a Google account. Just let me know your email address and I will plug it in for full access. If you don't have a Google account set up, then you can set one up with your present email address, or you can set it up with a gMail address.

Does this seem like a tool that we can use to discuss what is happening in our group? Let me know if there is anything else you would like added.
